Jonathan Djanogly, Member of Parliament for the Huntingdon constituency, has recently written to Huntingdonshire District Council to outline his objection to the planning application (1001201FUL) submitted by Broadview Energy for a wind farm on Kimbolton Hill. Mr Djanogly said; ‘I have received a considerable level of correspondence following the planning application by Broadview Energy. I have also been in contact with Kimbolton Parish Council, the District Councillor and I have met with the Action Group. It seems to me that the public opinion is overwhelmingly against a wind farm in the proposed location. ‘I do appreciate the necessity for renewable energy but it has to be sited in appropriate locations. I understand that there are a further nine proposals for wind farms within 20km and a further two that are operational. I believe that consideration must be given to the proximity of turbines and the potential effects that they may have on residents’ quality of life. ‘I am also concerned about the impact that the turbines would have on the cultural heritage of Kimbolton village. I understand that the turbines will be visible from a number of rooms at Kimbolton Castle and will invade the previously uninterrupted views of Warren House and St Andrew’s Church from the Castle. I have been informed that the Planning Inspector refused a planning appeal in 2003 for a dwelling on the basis that it would spoil this important local vista.’
