Jonathan Djanogly, the Member of Parliament for the Huntingdon Constituency has today given his reaction to the news that the Forensic Science Service lab in Huntingdon is to close. Mr Djanogly said; ‘I am very sad to hear that the labs are closing. I will be seeking clarification on how this will affect the Huntingdon site and will be looking to ensure that there is appropriate support for staff as well as that continuity of forensic capacity is not adversely affected during this transition. I do hope that the service can continue in some form – perhaps under different ownership and I will be writing to the Home Office to look into this. ‘I have visited FSS in Huntingdon on many occasions and have always viewed FSS as a valuable local employer. ‘This unit has steadily been loosing competitiveness over the last decade and the last Government repeatedly refused to privatise the service or to attract outside funds which were urgently required for the business to grow. In many ways the closure of this facility is an indictment of the financial ineptitude of the last Government.’
