Jonathan Djanogly, Member of Parliament for the Huntingdon Constituency, today commented on the recent report from Cambridgeshire coroners concerning Hinchingbrooke Hospital. The report had criticised the standards of care at the Huntingdon-based hospital and major bowel surgery has been transferred to Addenbrooke’s in Cambridge as a result. Hinchingbrooke Hospital have set up an independent external review of colorectal practice and have pledged to abide by its findings. Mr Djanogly said ‘Like many of my constituents, I am concerned at the contents of the recent report from Cambridgeshire coroners and I am seeking a meeting with the Hospital as soon as possible to discuss this matter. ‘However, I feel that it is essential not to prejudge the contents of the independent review that Hinchingbrooke have established. ‘I think that it is also important to recognise that many hundreds of people receive high quality treatment at Hinchingbrooke and I am hopeful that the appropriate action can be taken to ensure that the safety of patients remains a priority for all concerned.’ INFORMATION: Hinchingbrooke Hospital has set up a phone line for concerned patients or families. The number is 01480 847530 and it is open between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
