Local MP welcomes Ukrainians to Parliament

Jonathan Djanogly, MP for Huntingdon, yesterday met and welcomed a group of fourteen Ukrainians to the Parliamentary Estate ahead of their taking part in an ‘Inside UK Parliament’ tour. This includes walking through the Chamber of both Houses, Central Lobby and Westminster Hall.

Prior to the tour Jonathan spoke with the Ukrainians who are all now living within the boundaries of Huntingdon District Council, and he answered their questions about the on-going situation in Ukraine, the history of Parliament and his role as the Member of Parliament for Huntingdon.

The visit was organised by Jonathan’s Westminster Office in conjunction with representatives of Huntingdon District Council and Lara Davenport-Ray, Chair of the Love's Farm Community Association.

Commenting on the visit, Jonathan said:

“With the war in Ukraine continuing to rage on, it is more important than ever for those Ukrainians who have fled to the UK to feel safe, welcome and involved in local communities.

“Representing an area like Huntingdon whose residents took in refugees from Ukraine in their hundreds is a great source of pride, and it was a pleasure to welcome a number of them to Parliament for a tour.”

HDC’s Homes for Ukraine Coordinator, Caroline Hudson, said:

“It was a great opportunity to bring our Ukrainian guests to Westminster today. They enjoyed learning about some of our political history and talking to Mr Djanogly about their experiences both at home in Ukraine and here in Huntingdonshire. A really worthwhile and enjoyable experience was had by all and they have said they will remember for a very long time.”
