Local MP raises noise pollution concerns regarding Luton flight paths

On Monday [9 January] Jonathan Djanogly, MP for Huntingdon, intervened in an Adjournment Debate taking place in the House of Commons on Luton Flight Paths.

Focusing his comments on the noise pollution experienced by constituents in and around St. Neots, Jonathan welcomed the debate secured by fellow Cambridgeshire MP Anthony Browne, and used the opportunity to highlight the need to reconsider the basis for acceptable ambient noise levels.

Such levels are currently based on high levels acceptable to urban areas which are therefore inherently prejudicial to rural people and communities. Jonathan also welcomed the responding Minister’s invitation for a meeting to discuss all the issues raised regarding the flight paths in greater detail.

Commenting on the debate, Jonathan said:

“I am in regular contact with constituents in and around the St. Neots area who are affected by noise pollution issues relating to the new Luton Airport flight paths, and I know how much of an impact this continues to have on them on a daily basis.

“The debate was a welcome opportunity for me to raise the concerns of local people about this, and particularly in relation to ambient noise levels, the basis of which must be reconsidered. I am pleased the responding Minister took the concerns raised by myself and fellow Cambridgeshire MP Anthony Browne seriously, and I welcome the opportunity of a further meeting to discuss this with the Minister in greater detail.”
