Jonathan Djanogly, Member of Parliament for the Huntingdon constituency, is applauding the work of a weight management Consultant from Huntingdon, who has successfully helped hundreds of local people lose weight and lead healthier lives. Cambridge Weight Plan Consultant Yasmin May was invited to meet with Mr Djanogly to discuss the benefits of Cambridge for overweight and obese people in Huntingdon and the surrounding areas. Cambridge Weight Plan is a weight management programme, based around a number of steps, including weight loss, weight stabilisation and long-term weight maintenance. One of the main reasons why so many people keep the weight off after using Cambridge is the individual help of Consultants such as Yasmin. Mr Djanogly was shown the results of 30 Cambridge clients in particular, whose health and well-being have dramatically improved as a result of their weight loss and support given by Yasmin, with clients seeing their blood pressure fall and knee and back pain improve. Yasmin highlighted how Cambridge programmes continue to be based on the highest standards of scientific research and shared how most recently, a study has been published in the BMJ which shows that individuals on the Cambridge programme can lose considerable amounts of weight and maintain this weight loss over the course of a year. This is proving to be particularly helpful for those suffering from sleep apnoea. Mr Djanogly and Yasmin also discussed how important it was to help parents change their relationship with food and move towards a healthier, more active lifestyle. By reducing their own weight, and keeping this off, mums and dads can act as positive role models to their children and make their own small contribution towards tackling the UK's growing childhood obesity problem. Jonathan Djanogly MP said: "The work that Yasmin has done, and the success that she has achieved with helping overweight people in Huntingdon live healthier lives is simply fantastic. The results speak for themselves and I am impressed with the support she is offering people to lose weight and keep it off." Yasmin May, Cambridge Consultant for Huntingdon said: "Obesity can have a terrible effect on peoples' lives, but is so often a symptom of an even greater problem. The work that I do as a Cambridge Consultant helps people explore some of the reasons why they put on weight - because there's usually a bit more to it than simply 'eating too much'. By supporting people to eat more healthily and undertake more exercise, they're less likely to return to the old habits that led to weight gain in the past, and so live healthier, more fulfilling lives.
