Local MP Jonathan Djanogly has declared his support for a thriving and working countryside at The Countryside Matters Parliamentary reception. The event, organised by the CLA (Country Land and Business Association) which represents landowners, farmers and rural businesses, set out the positive contributions landowners and farmers make to the countryside which benefit everyone who lives, visits or works in it. The Government has committed to maintain the existing budget that is invested in the countryside via the Common Agriculture Policy until the end of the Parliament. However, to continue to provide the public benefits currently supported by the countryside such as storing water, cleaning the air we breathe, producing food and enhancing wildlife, it is crucial that this funding is invested in the long term. Huntingdon MP Jonathan Djanogly said: “I am pleased to support the CLA’s The Countryside Matters campaign. The countryside provides so much, not only for those living and working there but for those who live in our towns and cities as well. I look forward to working with the CLA to ensure that our countryside continues to provide a wide range of benefits for all.” CLA East Director Ben Underwood said: “I am delighted that Jonathan Djanogly was able to attend our reception and show that the countryside matters to him. The countryside plays a vital part in providing measures against flooding, enhancing our environment and helping to tackle climate change.
