Mr Djanogly was accompanied by Shailesh Vara MP, Cllr Ian Bates, Leader of Huntingdonshire District Council and Cllrs Steve Criswell and Susan Normington as well as representatives from two of the affected parishes in Catworth and Great Stukeley.
Mr Djanogly said,
'I firmly believe that this government has presided over a huge attack on rural life. Post Offices represent much more to local communities than just a shop, they are often the hub of a village or town and I continue to urge people to make their own individual input into the official Post Office Consultation.
'I have continued to meet with the Parishes affected, Post Office and Postwatch and I attended a meeting last Thursday at Pathfinder House with many local Councillors to discuss the situation. I continue to have concerns about the long term viability of some of the outreach measures that have been proposed.'
'I urge everyone affected to write into the consultation opposing the government's national closure policy and the closure of their own local post office. However, it is also vital to comment on the Post Office alternative proposals offered. There will be no second chance to comment.'
