Jonathan Djanogly Member of Parliament for the Huntingdon Constituency has today voiced his concern at the proposals published by the East of England Regional Assembly for a 20,000 home new town incorporating Alconbury Airfield.

Mr Djanogly said;

'I have significant concerns with this proposal. I understand that the size of this development will be about half the size of Cambridge and much larger than Huntingdon. Any project of such a size will have a significant effect on the local community and infrastructure. The environmental impact would be huge and it is important to ensure that all aspects of the proposal are carefully considered.'

'I accept the need for appropriate levels of growth but Huntingdonshire is already committed to taking a lot of new homes in Huntingdon and St Neots. These new proposals appear to be out of character for the local area and I will be working with local councillors to oppose these plans and promote more acceptable forms of development.'"
