Jonathan Djanogly Member of Parliament for the Huntingdon Constituency has today praised Huntingdonshire's entrepreneurial spirit during the current economic downturn.

Mr Djanogly said,

'I was with many local people, disappointed to learn that the Huntingdon Marks & Spencer Simply Food store is to close after we have already lost Woolworths recently but I am very pleased that Huntingdonshire is bucking the national trend with an increase in local footfall.'

'Huntingdonshire is a growth area for businesses as well as housing developments with a number of significant building projects continuing in our towns despite the recession. Huntingdon town centre is also experiencing growth with the opening, in the last three months, of a wine shop, an art gallery, a newsagent, a furnishing store and a specialist food shop. It is clear that Huntingdonshire continues to have significant potential for business and I am hopeful that this will continue. I have also written to Sir Stuart Rose, Chairman of Marks & Spencer Group PLC, to ask that he reconsiders the closure of the Marks & Spencer store in Huntingdon.'"
