Jonathan Djanogly, the Member of Parliament for the Huntingdon Constituency, has attacked the Government for the ongoing failure of its new Criminal Records Bureau to deliver an efficient service. Delays are now mounting up on public and private sector checks carried out with the CRB locally and across the whole country, which are having a serious negative effect.
Mr Djanogly said:
"I was recently advised that Cambridgeshire County Council still has over 40 CRB checks outstanding from before April. This means that teachers and other people working with children have been unable to take up positions and delays are seriously affecting the system.
But it is not only the public sector which is being badly affected. I have recently been approached by Steve's Taxis, the largest taxi company in Huntingdon, who have still not received CRB searches, which were filed as early as May of this year. This is having a serious affect on their business - which is simply not acceptable.
I have written to the Secretary of State on behalf of Steve's Taxis asking them to sort this problem and I have additionally raised the problem the County Council are having on the Floor of the House.
The Government needs to sort this disaster out quickly if jobs and confidence in the system are not going to be lost altogether."
