Local MP Jonathan Djanogly regularly undertakes surveys of the views of the businessmen and women who he represents at Westminster as the Member of Parliament for Huntingdon.

Earlier this year, Mr Djanogly wrote to 1800 local businesses seeking their thoughts on a wide range of business related issues. The survey covered such issues as the state of the local economy, the use of the internet for business and actions that could be taken to help make life easier for the local business community. Of those invited to take part, 122 did so. Commenting on the results, Mr Djanogly said,

"I would never claim that this was a scientific survey, however, some of the results are so clear cut that they do send a very strong message. I was particularly struck by how many of those who responded expected to see their tax bills rise in the next 12 months (90% for business tax and 87% for personal tax).

In light of all the recent revelations about lost laptops and computer disk, I was also very interested, but not surprised to see that half of those taking part in the survey were not at all confident that any data they provided to HM Customs & Excise was secure. The growing impact of the internet is also notable, with 71% saying that it had made their lives easier.

The survey is a valuable thing for me, as it ensures that any member of my business community can easily send me their views. I appreciate the time taken by those taking part, as form filling is one of the things I generally oppose. By sending me their thoughts, they are helping to ensure that I am able to represent them better at Westminster and in the Constituency".
