The Secretary of State for Transport, Alistair Darling MP, in a statement made in the House of Commons yesterday extended the national air transport consultation period for a further period of four months. Questioning Mr Darling after his Statement, Jonathan Djanogly, the Member of Parliament for the Huntingdon Constituency, stated that, whilst he welcomed the Government's decision to extend the consultation period in order that his constituents have more time to consider the Alconbury proposals, he remained very concerned that the Government's consultation to date had been both inadequate and inaccurate.
In response to Mr Djanogly's question, Mr Darling suggested that Mr Djanogly write to him setting out his complaints.
Mr Djanogly said:
"Following my question to the Secretary of State yesterday, I have now written to him asking that a further public meeting be organised in the constituency and that fuller information is provided to my constituents, so that an informed decision can be made by local people.
I hope that Mr Darling's answer indicates a more constructive approach than I have seen to date, but the extension to the consultation is certainly to be welcomed."
