Jonathan Djanogly, the Member of Parliament for the Huntingdon Constituency, this week asked the Secretary of State for Transport on the Floor of the House of Commons, for an update on the A14 Multi Modal Study.
Mr Djanogly said:
"With it becoming increasingly clear that there are significant objections to the Guided Bus, not least from Huntingdonshire, I was very concerned to have it confirmed publicly by the Minister that there would be no impact on the vital A14 road improvements, whatever the outcome of the public inquiry on the Guided Bus. I was therefore pleased that the Minister confirmed that the A14 improvements are not dependent on the Guided Bus.
I was, however, very disappointed when the Minister said that the preferred route of the A14 would be announced in spring 2005. This is because in a Minister's letter to me from April 2003, it was said that public consultation and confirmation of the preferred route would occur in 2004. I have therefore written to the Minister asking for reasons for the delay of a year and whether this is also likely to delay the road opening from 2010 to 2011. With the current state and accident record of the A14, as it is, any delays are most unwelcome."
