A14 - Djanogly calls for Action Again

13th February 2003

Jonathan Djanogly calls for improvements to the A14 "at the earliest opportunity".

Following the recent spate of accidents and blockages on the A14, Jonathan Djanogly, the Member of Parliament for the Huntingdon Constituency, in support of complaint made by Huntingdonshire District Council, has called on the Government to initiate improvements to the A14 at the earliest opportunity.

Mr Djanogly has written to David Jamieson MP at the Department of Transport, following his receipt of answers to his Written Parliamentary Questions sent to the Secretary of State.

Mr Djanogly said:

"The situation on the A14 is becoming critical and action is urgently required to sort this mess out. Because of a lack of impetus from the Government, I decided to ask a series of questions in an attempt to tie the Government down to telling me what is going on. Unfortunately, the responses I received were, to say the least, wishy washy. I have therefore written to the Minister requesting that he again looks at this issue and that the roadworks be accelerated.

If we don't sort this out, the Huntingdon to Cambridge link will come to a standstill before long, the accident rates will continue to rise and our local economy, which is already suffering from this road, could be disastrously affected."
