Treat our police fairly

12th December 2007

Jonathan Djanogly today spoke out against the Government's mistreatment of the police in the current pay round.

Jonathan Djanogly, the Member of Parliament for the Huntingdon constituency today spoke out against the Government's mistreatment of the police in the current pay round.

In a letter he has sent to local police officers Mr. Djanogly said:

"It is not surprising that the recent announcement on police pay has had an adverse effect on police morale and our Home Affairs team will be raising Questions with the Minister.

As you will be aware, the existing arrangements for awarding police pay have been in place since 1979 in recognition of the work police officers do and the fact that they cannot take industrial action. Frankly, this is no way to treat the police force of this country. If we were running the Home Office, we would never have got into this position. A Conservative Government would have treated the police fairly, honestly and openly - with the respect they deserve."
