Trade Unions: Complaints

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform how many complaints about trades unions the Certification Officer received in each year since 2002.

Mr. Djanogly: To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform how many complaints about trades unions the Certification Officer received in each year since 2002; what the substance was of each complaint; and how many the Certification Officer responded to. [179234]

Mr. McFadden: I refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for Horsham (Mr. Maude) on 19 November 2007, Official Report, column 487. That answer gave details on the numbers of complaints accepted by the Certification Officer and determined in each year since 2002. The Certification Officer responds to all complaints he receives about trades unions. All decisions made by the Certification Officer after 2001 and a selection of key decisions made before are available on the Certification Officer's website wwwxcertoffice.org. Those decisions provide detail on the substance of complaints.
