Huntingdon Life Sciences - Djanogly Calls on Blair to Support HLS

17th January 2002

At Prime Minister's Question Time yesterday, Jonathan Djanogly called on the Prime Minister to support Huntingdon Life Science employees, shareholders and funders from the massive intimidation campaign currently being staged by animal rights terrorists.

At Prime Minister's Question Time yesterday, Jonathan Djanogly, the Member of Parliament for the Huntingdon Constituency, called on the Prime Minister to support Huntingdon Life Science employees, shareholders and funders from the massive intimidation campaign currently being staged by animal rights terrorists. Mr Djanogly noted that, like other terrorist organisations, animal rights terrorists organised internationally and use extreme violence. He asked the Prime Minister "Does the worldwide international fight against terrorism extend to Huntingdon and what is he proposing to do to stop the terror?"

Following the Prime Minister's response, Mr Djanogly said:

"Although the Prime Minister did not mention any specific remedies, I was pleased to note his general support for Huntingdon Life Sciences and general disdain for the animal rights terrorist activities.

I have written separately to the Home Secretary requesting a meeting, in order to identify more specific actions to be taken against the terrorists. In the meantime, we should also recognise the tremendous job Cambridgeshire Police are carrying out on a daily basis in order to protect local people. But we need to do more - and the Government must take a lead."
