Electricity - MP Investigates Failure

5th November 2002

Jonathan Djanogly has been regularly in touch with the London Electricity Group concerning the failure of the loss of electricity following the storm one weeks ago.

Over the course of the last week, Jonathan Djanogly, the Member of Parliament for the Huntingdon Constituency, has been regularly in touch with the London Electricity Group concerning the failure of the loss of electricity following the storm one weeks ago.

Mr Djanogly said:

"I have today received an apology from the Chief Operating Officer of the London Electricity Group for the inconvenience and discomfort LE caused my constituents in their response to last week's storm condition.

Importantly, the London Electricity Group have accepted that a number of their systems, including telephony, were not able to cope with the demand and that as a result their communication with customers in no way met their customers' expectations.

The London Electricity Group will be undertaking a full review of their response to the storm in order to identify the areas of the operation which need to be improved. They will also be reporting to the regulator and to the Government.

In the meantime, I shall be meeting with the London Electricity Group shortly to discuss their response to the storm and I shall certainly be seeking their assurance that their systems have been dramatically improved.

I would encourage those that have suffered loss of electricity to advise me of their personal experiences when dealing with London Electricity in order that I can address as many concerns as possible with them."
